The Equinox marks the Sun's passing through the Earth's equator. On this day, both hemispheres of the planet are divided equally with the Sun appearing to rise due west in the morning and set due east in the evening.
Equinox comes from Latin, meaning equi- (equal) and -nox (night), referring to the 24 hours of this day being equal parts day and night. This occurs only twice a year and marks the beginning of Spring and Autumn.
