A hand-painted porcelain plaque set into a scalloped gold-tone bezel that doubles as a brooch and pendant. Two soft blush peonies are painted against a wash of sky blue, their petals rendered with the delicate, unhurried brushwork that defines mid-century Scandinavian porcelain at its best. Founded in 1853 in Copenhagen, Bing & Grøndahl was granted the title of purveyor to the Royal Danish Court — a standard of craft reflected even in small wearable pieces like this one. A flat cat face in warm gold tone stares out with oversized emerald-green rhinestone eyes — bevel-cut, deeply faceted, and disproportionately large in the way that makes the whole piece slightly surreal and entirely charming. The surface is textured with fine fur-like lines, the whiskers rendered in flat relief, the ears pinched and alert. The Little Nemo Company was known for hand-faceted rhinestones set into gold plated and pot metal bases — and this small cat carries that standard. Signed NEMO on the reverse. This locket brooch is a vintage black cameo that likely dates from the 1930s to the 1950s.
